46+ Children's Business Ideas (and how to run a kids market stall)

A practical list of children's business ideas for young entrepreneurs under 18 — plus a simple 5-step plan to take your idea from "I should make this" to selling at your first kids market stall.

What makes a good kids' business?

The best businesses for kids and teens are simple, low-cost to start, and built around something you already enjoy. You don't need a big idea — you need a small one that you can actually make, price, and sell. The goal isn't to get rich; it's to learn how a real business works: making something people want, charging a fair price, and serving real customers.

Part 2 — How to get started

5 steps from idea to first sale

01

Pick an idea you actually enjoy

The best business starts with something you already love doing. If you like baking, sell baked goods. If you love drawing, sell art. You'll need to make a lot of it — pick something that won't feel like a chore.

02

Make a small test batch

Before you commit, make 5–10 of your product. Give some to friends and family and ask honestly — would they pay for this? What would they change? Use the feedback to improve before you scale up.

03

Work out your price

Add up what each one costs to make (materials + packaging), then add a fair amount on top for your time. A good rule of thumb: charge at least 2–3× your material cost. Round to a friendly number like $5 or $10.

04

Plan your stall

Think about how it'll look. A clear sign with your business name, neat product display, a price list, and a way to take payment (cash float + a phone with a payment app). Practise setting it up at home.

05

Sell with confidence

Smile, make eye contact, and tell people about your product. Track what sells and what doesn't. After the market, count your profit, thank your customers, and start planning the next one.

5 quick tips for market day

  • Start small — it's better to sell out than to have leftovers.
  • Make your stall stand out with one bold colour or theme.
  • Have change ready and a backup payment method.
  • Ask customers for feedback — it's how you improve.
  • Take photos for social media and for next time.
